🌾 From a Village Dream to a Season of Growth

Every time I sit down to write about Basoli, I’m reminded of where this all began – with a girl in a small village, watching her grandmother slow-cook meals with patience, love, and stories. Those memories of spices toasting in a pan, tomatoes simmering on the stove, and family gathered around a simple meal are the heart of Basoli.
This year, that village dream travelled farther than I ever imagined.
🌻 A Summer to Remember
From May through October, we took Basoli on the road and participated in over 330 farmers’ markets and community events across Ontario. On average, that was about 13 markets a week – a whirlwind season filled with early mornings, long drives, and so many beautiful connections.
We had the joy of setting up our booth in communities like Uxbridge, Port Perry, Cobourg, Bowmanville, Peterborough, Brighton, Trent Hills, Minden, Haliburton and more. Each place had its own character, but the warmth was the same everywhere: people stopping to chat, ask questions, share stories, and come back for “their usual” jar.
Some of my favourite moments from this summer:
- A customer returning to tell us our Malai sauce is the only way their kids will eat chicken now.
- A family who told us our Tikka Masala has become part of their Friday-night dinners — they light candles, set the table, and make it a tradition.
- Families stocking up before a long weekend and sending us photos of their dinner tables later that night.
Those are the memories that stay with us long after the tents are packed and the coolers are cleaned.
🛒 Growing Trust, One Jar at a Time
This year wasn’t just about showing up at markets – it was about building trust.
Our online orders grew from all across Canada, with customers discovering Basoli through word of mouth, social media, and kind reviews. Many of you took the time to share feedback, photos, and stories about how our sauces and ready-to-eat meals have become part of your weekly routine, special occasions, and family traditions.
We’re incredibly proud and humbled to have earned the Top Store badge on Google and Transparency certificates for verified customer reviews on our website. These aren’t just logos on a page – they’re a reflection of the care we put into every batch, and the confidence you have in us.
Whether it’s an in-person conversation at the booth, an email telling us our Tarka Daal tasted like home, or a social media post sharing your Basoli dinner, every message reminds us why we do this.
📖 From “A Girl from a Village” to Today
In our very first blog, I wrote about being a girl from a village, learning to cook by watching the women in my family create magic out of simple ingredients. Back then, the dream was just to share those flavours with a few more people outside our own home.
Today, that same girl stands behind a Basoli booth, talking about clean ingredients, olive oil, family recipes, and the love that goes into each jar – and watches those flavours travel into thousands of homes across the province. It still feels surreal.
The heart of Basoli hasn’t changed. We still cook the way our family always has: slowly, carefully, and with respect for the ingredients and the people who will share the meal. The only difference now is that the circle around the table has grown much bigger.
🍛 Our Vision for the Year Ahead
As we look ahead, our vision is simple and strong:
- To bring the love of food to even more communities across Canada.
- To continue expanding into new local shops, markets, and regions.
- To develop new products that stay true to who we are – authentic, home-style Indian food made with olive oil and no shortcuts.
We’re working behind the scenes on new partnerships, more ready-to-eat options, and ways to make it even easier for you to enjoy fresh, flavourful meals at home. Our goal is that whether you’re in a big city or a small town, you’ll be able to find Basoli close to you.
❤️ Thank You for Being Part of Our Story
From the village kitchen where it all started, to the markets, homes, and tables we’re a part of today – none of this would be possible without you.
Thank you for stopping by our booth, for trying something new, for coming back for seconds (and thirds), for trusting us with your family meals, and for sharing your stories with us.
Here’s to another year of growth, community, and delicious food – and to bringing Basoli to even more hearts and homes.
With love,
Pam & The Basoli Team
